16.10 General (Fire protection)

16.10General (Fire protection)

The requirements for fire protection in Swimming pools are based on the protection goals of the German model building regulations. The fire protection objectives are defined there in Section 14: "Building structures must be arranged, erected, modified and maintained in such a way that the development of a fire and the spread of fire and smoke (fire propagation) is prevented and, in the event of a fire, the rescue of people and animals and effective extinguishing work are possible."

The requirements of the respective German state building regulations must also be observed, as the federal states sometimes take different approaches to achieving the goal of fire protection.

The requirements in this chapter serve to standardise the planning and assessment of fire protection in indoor swimming pools, which are to be treated as unregulated special buildings under building regulations.
